PAIN RELIEF

Pain relief medicines are those medicines which are used to reduce pain in the body like headache, muscle pain, arthritis, joint pain and different types of pains and aches. There are different types of medicines available in the market with different effects and side effects. 

SYMPTOMS

Pain in the can occur at anytime and at any age. There is not fixed age for the pain in the body. Pain can vary in every individual. It can be severe, sharp, mild or dull. Every pain is treated with different pain reliever. 

Older people are more prone to joint pain or arthritis.

CAUSES

Every pain has its own reason for example back pain can be caused by a bad mattress or not sleeping in proper position, stomachache can be caused by indigestion, ulcer or headache can be caused by hypertension or any accident.

TYPES

There are different types of pain relievers for different pains. Some of the main types of pain relievers are given below:

NSAIDs non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs are used for inflammation, fever and pain.

Corticosteroids are used for musculoskeletal injuries like arthritis. These pain relievers come in the form of injections and oral tablets.

Acetaminophen is used to increase the strength of the body to uphold pain. But it has some effects on inflammation.

Opioids are used to modify pain messages in the brain. These pain relievers are also called narcotic analgesics. They are available in the market only on prescription.

There are anti anxiety drugs which relieve pain, reduce stress and relieve tensed muscles.

TREATMENT

Pain medication is basically categorized in two ways: prescription medicines and non- prescription medicines. In non- prescription medicines, mild pain relievers like ibuprofen is included, which is mainly used for short term treatment and cause less side effects.

In prescription medicines, NSAIDs are included which are stronger in nature and used to treat chronic pain. It has more side effects and only be used under guidance. 

MEDICATION

Prescription medication should always be used under guidance and as per the dosage recommended by the doctor. Whereas, non prescription medication can be used according to the situation but in minimum quantity. Non prescription medicines are considered to be safer if taken in limits. Pain can be temporary or permanent, so medication is advised accordingly.

SIDE EFFECTS

Every medicine has its own side effects which may vary person to person. Below are some common side effects of pain relievers, if any side effect gets severe contact or consult your doctor as soon as possible.

Pain relievers can damage your liver if taken with alcohol.

Drowsiness or dizziness

Constipation or upset stomach

Nausea or vomiting

They are highly addictive

Unbalanced blood pressure

Heart related issues

These side effects go away with the discontinuation of the medications. Apart from above side effects if anything serious persists, kindly seek emergency help.

WARNINGS/ PRECAUTIONS 

Never mix pain relievers with alcohol as it can create serious problems. Pregnant or breastfeeding mothers should take these medications only after consulting to a doctor as it can be risky for the child. Store your medicine at a place which is moist free and children could not reach it.

These medicines should always be taken with food. Taking them on empty stomach can cause bleeding or ulcer. These medicines are highly addictive so discontinue using them as pain gets relieved. Continuous use of pain relievers can cause kidney or liver failure.
